ART 285 - The Making of a Printshop

Semester Offered: Spring
1 unit(s)
Spaces for printing have a long history of being communication centers, spaces for action and activism, communal and collaborative workspaces. This class uses the Vassar Printmaking studio and the democratic potential of print as a starting place for students to consider this history and the qualities within a printmaking studio that cultivate open exchanges, shared resources and collaborative processes. Individually and collectively, students engage in the production of publications, in the development and implementation of workshops that engage the broader Vassar community, and in the dissemination/distribution of print in multiple ways. Together, looking at examples through both research and possible on-site visits within the Hudson Valley, we consider how to navigate/transform the space into the collective Printshop that students envision. Christina Tenaglia.
