URBS 273 - Modern Architecture and Beyond Semester Offered: Spring 1 unit(s) (Same as ART 273 ) World architecture and city building (1932 to the present); examination of the diffusion of modernism and its reinterpretation by corporate America, Soviet Russia, former colonies and newly-formed nations. Discussion of subsequent critiques of modernism (postmodernism, deconstruction, new urbanism) and their limitations. Issues in contemporary architecture, such as the consequences of the digital, environmental, and ethical turns. Eduardo Vivanco.
Prerequisite(s): ART 105 or ART 106 or ART 170 , or permission of the instructor.
