RUSS 156 - The Cinema of Sergei Eisenstein (in English)
Semester Offered: Spring 0.5 unit(s) Sergei Eisenstein, a brilliant pioneer and a seminal theorist of cinema as a form of art, remains one of the most famous directors in the history of film. The course examines Eisenstein’s artistic trajectory from his early avant-garde creations of the 1920s (The Strike and Battleship Potemkin) to the late masterpieces produced during the period of high Stalinism (Alexander Nevsky and Ivan the Terrible). Special attention is paid to the cultural and historical contexts of Eisenstein’s films. Dan Ungurianu.
